Do You Need To Switch To The DivaCup?

When women are on their period, they want a product that will be protective, comfortable, and safe. There are different options to choose from, including pads, period pants, tampons, and menstrual cups.

All these are good choices depending on every woman’s need, but the menstrual cup has become the most used because of its comfort, ease of use, and reusability.

Diva International is a Canadian company that specializes in making period products and accessories. In 2013, the founders, Francine Chambers and her daughter Carinne Chambers-Saini launched the DivaCup, which has become one of the most used menstrual cups in the industry.

They have three series of the DivaCup, ideal for different ages. Series zero is suitable for ladies aged 18 and below, series one for women between 19 and 30 years, and series two for women above 30 years or those with a heavy flow.

Depending on your flow, you can wear the DivaCup for up to 12 hours. You should empty, wash, and rinse it at least twice or thrice within 24 hours.

It is a comfortable product, and you can wear it throughout any activities, no matter how vigorous, including swimming, scuba diving, weight lifting, running, and yoga. However, you cannot wear it during sexual intercourse.

You can also wear it if you have an IUD, and it will not interfere with it since you insert it away from the cervix.

While you may be uncomfortable inserting and removing it for the first time, it is easy to use after getting used to it and is not messy. Always follow the instructions on the packaging to know how to use it, and ensure you break the seal/ suction before removing it.

With proper cleaning and care, your DivaCup can last several years. However, you need to replace it if you notice:

  • Heavy staining
  • Foul odor
  • Flaking or white powder residue on the cup
  • A grainy texture
  • Cracks or tears in the stem or rim of the cup
  • Sudden leaking you have not had to deal with before.

Why Use DivaCup?

  • Eco-friendly- The DivaCup is made using medical-grade silicone, and you can reuse it for several years, reducing waste.
  • Saves you money- Unlike other products like pads and tampons, where you have to make repeat purchases, you only need two or three menstrual cups and don’t have to buy another one for years.
  • More protection- unlike other period products or menstrual cups that you have to change or empty after around seven or eight hours, you can have your DivaCup on for up to 12 hours.
  • Safe- Many women are worried about getting infections or itching from period products. However, DivaCup has no added dyes, chemicals, or plastics, meaning you don’t have to deal with any such issues.
